Case Study: Slow COMT Gene Variant
The Problem
Natasha believed her slow COMT gene was causing tachycardia and sleep issues. COMT is responsible for metabolizing dopamine and other excitatory neurotransmitters. When it runs slow, this can lead to a lot of stimulatory effects.
The Solution
I explained that certain foods should be avoided as they can add extra detoxification burden to the COMT gene. I modified Natasha’s diet and recommended supplements more ideally suited to her genetics. We also discussed the role of exercise with COMT and found a better time of day for her to get in her workouts. Lastly, we discussed the role of methylated supplements with COMT and talked about her experiences with them. I made a number of changes with her supplements and provided her with a protocol better tailored to her genetics.
The Result
These changes were able to reduce the episodes of elevated heart rate and allow her to sleep more peacefully.
Case Study: Positive C677T MTHFR Variant
The Problem
Tucker was positive for the C677T MTHFR variant. He suffered from ADHD, impulsivity and oppositional behavior. Mom had him on Deplin initially. It helped for a time and then stopped working.
The Solution
I ran several other tests on Tucker and made dietary suggestions consistent with Dr. Ben Lynch’s StrateGene report.
The Result
In time, Tyler’s mood became much less oppositional and overall he felt happier.
